Clarence “Taffy” Abel (Anishnaabe) was the first Native American in the NHL and played 321 games over his career for the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. He scored 19 goals and added 18 assists for 37 career points. As well, he won a silver medal with team USA at the 1924 Olympics and won two Stanley Cups-one with the New York Rangers in 1928 & Chicago Blackhawks in 1934. He is a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
